Travis Mountain started work as an Extension Specialist and Assistant Professor of Financial and Economic Well-being in the AAEC Department in August 2015. He comes to Virginia Tech after completing his Ph.D. in Family Resource Management from The Ohio State University. He completed a M.S. in Consumer Behavior and Family Economics in 2008 and a B.S. degree in Consumer Science with a concentration in Personal Finance in 2004, both degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Travis has conducted research, taught courses, and developed extension programs in Florida, Ohio and in Wisconsin. His area of concentration as an Extension specialist will be financial and economic well-being of the households and communities of Virginia. His current research interests include life insurance adequacy, food security, and mortgage selection decision behavior. He is also a member of the NC-2172 multistate research team focusing on “behavioral economics and financial decision-making and information management across the lifespan.” Currently the team is working on a post-secondary education financing project and has future plans to examine Social Security and retirement.

Mountain’s wealth of knowledge and experience will support his development of extension and research programs focused on the needs of Virginia’s citizens. Welcome to Virginia Travis!
