Internship spotlight: International Marketing with the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services

  • ABOUT
    The International Marketing Intern will support the Office of International Marketing in their mission to promote Virginia’s portfolio of high-quality and high-value agricultural products through innovative and memorable experiences to a discerning global audience.
  • RESPONSIBILITIES
    The primary responsibility of the intern is to recruit Virginia companies to participate in international marketing programs. Other support activities will include 2) research and data collection, 3) company outreach and relationship development, 4) communications, 5) activity development, 6) event planning, and 6) developing social media content.
  • QUALIFICATIONS
    The candidate must begin the internship no later than the middle of their final semester at a college or university. Must be a U.S. citizen or have a visa that permits the individual to work. The ideal candidate will have a background or interest in agriculture, global business, marketing, or trade.
  • TERM
    May to August 2025 at the VDACS headquarters in Richmond, Virginia (specific start/end date determined around intern’s school calendar) Additionally, the intern may have the option to continue remote in the Fall. Approximately 20-32 hours per week during the summer, and if continuing during the school year, 10+ hours per week.
  • BENEFITS
    This position is a unique opportunity to experience marketing to a global audience and work directly with Virginia companies to grow their businesses. This is a paid internship supported by SUSTA.

Job Demand Report

The USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture and Purdue University show a strong job demand for new college graduates with degrees in agricultural programs.

A new report, released today by USDA’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) and Purdue University, shows a strong job demand for new college graduates with degrees in agricultural programs. U.S. college graduates can expect approximately 59,400 job opportunities annually between 2020 and 2025. This reflects a 2.6 percent growth from the previous five years. Employer demand will exceed the supply of available graduates with a bachelor’s degree or higher in agriculture-related fields.
