How did you end up at Virginia Tech and in your major?
- Both of my parents are Virginia Tech alumni, so I grew up visiting Blacksburg and attending Hokie football games. Choosing Virginia Tech was a no-brainer! However, it wasn't as obvious when picking a major. I wasn't sure what I wanted to do, but my father encouraged me to consider agriculture economics (his major). I was heavily involved in FFA during high school, so pursuing a degree in agricultural and applied economics aligned with my interests. I ended up switching my major to Agribusiness Management for more course flexibility. I am very grateful I chose the AAEC department for my undergraduate career!
Class year(s) and degree(s)
- 2018, Agribusiness Management
Favorite Virginia Tech memory
- It's impossible to pick just one! I have incredible memories of going to Virginia Tech football games, being on the National Agri-Marketing Association (NAMA) team, being in a sorority and a fraternity sweetheart in addition to all the little moments in classes and meeting new people.
Why should a prospective student consider agricultural and applied economics?
- AAEC provides a unique opportunity to not only learn about economics and business but also to apply that knowledge in real-world scenarios. By gaining practical experience alongside classroom learning, you can enter the workforce one step ahead of your peers.
Fun fact about yourself.
- I have red hair and blue eyes which is the rarest combination in the world!
