Instructions

This target price calculator provides an estimate of what you may receive for your grain at one of Virginia’s many regional grain locations.

To use the calculator:

• Input expected grain characteristics at the time of marketing in Option #1 column (manually type in the number of bushels and select other categories using the drop-down options)
• The “year” category provides several options for what historical basis data to include in the target price calculation. We suggest using a 5-year average as a default option, but provide an opportunity to choose a 3-year average or a specific year if you believe those conditions would be more representative of current market conditions.
• The target price is calculated as the futures price plus the expected basis (from the previous step) for the selected location.
• To compare prices between locations: input the expected grain characteristics at the time of marketing in the Option #2 column and change the characteristics you would like to compare (i.e., location, bushels, month, etc.)
• See target price differences and adjustments to make informed marketing decisions.
